venue hire faqs

How do I make a hire enquiry?

Phone: 01702 461616 between Monday-Friday.

Email: info@southendchristianfellowship.org.uk

You can make an appointment to visit our building and view our facilities.

Who do you hire the building to?

Often local societies, businesses and charities.

Will someone supervise the hiring onsite?

Yes and depending on the size of your event, we have a Hires Team that can serve refreshments/tuck and ensure that the hire runs smoothly.

Are there building hire restrictions?

We are a church and not a community centre. This is the building in which we worship and therefore it is especially important to us. For this reason, specific conditions do apply and we would ask you to read through this information before calling, to avoid unnecessary disappointment.

Our preference is for our building to be used by groups where there is clearly some benefit to the wider community.  Also, all activities, as part of the hire of the premises must be consistent with the spiritual beliefs, ethos and values of Southend Christian Fellowship.

What are the building hire restrictions?

The following uses are not permitted:

  • Use by political parties or politically-minded interest groups.

  • Use by other faith groups, for worship, religious ceremonies or social activities that include a religious element.

  • Groups that may wish to promote spiritualism, clairvoyance, ‘New Age’ and other mystical experiences.

  • Use by any ‘closed society groups’ such as Freemasons.

  • Groups that may be construed to portray a negative bias to other parts of the whole community, e.g those perceived to have a racist agenda or some form of anti-community bias.

  • Groups promoting community physical activities where such physical activities may have a basis or strong link to other religions such as Yoga (Buddhism), Tai Chi (Taoism) and Reiki (Shintoism and Buddhism) or where there is a high degree of aggression exhibited such as boxing.

  • Engagement in any activity which might be viewed as gambling.  This involves games of chance such as Bingo unless no payment is made by an individual.  The sale of raffle tickets on the premises is not permitted. Raffles on the premises is prohibited unless no payment is made for raffle tickets.

We therefore make it a requirement that individuals or organisations making an application for the use of the church premises will be asked to declare the purposes for which the premises will be used.

Summary

We welcome the use of the building for community purposes so long as the activities do not conflict with the values and beliefs of the church. The buildings are well kept and offer good facilities but naturally, there are some restrictions due to church use and due to the size of the rooms available.
