What is Open Plaza?

Open Plaza encompasses all our community focussed events that are designed to express love to our local, and wider, community, from our summer outreach extravaganza, to our Christmas celebration. They are free, designed to bless, bring fun, laughter and to help the people of Southchurch and beyond feel loved.

Launching in 2011, Our main OP summer event takes place on a bi-annual basis, with a whole week packed full of free activities.  The Plaza Centre (home of Southend Christian Fellowship) hosts a range of events throughout the week and we also have events out and about in the local community. The events are open to all and the variety available is to ensure there are options to appeal to everyone, from youngest to oldest, those with additional needs and from every walk of life.  During our last OP week in July 2017 we had over 150 volunteers (many who volunteered repeatedly) putting on 20+ events throughout the week.

What happened this year?

This summer we ran our kids club which has built a fantastic reputation and is was well attended by primary school aged children, many of whom come from vulnerable or under privileged backgrounds.

We provided commuters at Southchurch East station with breakfast bags - feeding 2000 commuters over the course of the week- completed community clear ups, and threw an afternoon tea dance, a Ceilidh, an International Fiesta, and an acoustic evening providing music, mocktails and food.

Open Plaza events allow us to, not only build better relationship with those in our local community, but also initiate and strengthens connections of those taking part.
